The plight of the Louisiana fishermen from the four hurricanes over the past two years is starting to get national attention. A February 1st article in the New York Times deals with the plight of the industry since Hurricane Ida, and the effect it is having on the region’s rich culture of food and fishing.
According to author Paul Greenberg, Americans only eat about 15 pounds of seafood per year, half of the global average. While other countries are willing to pay top dollar, he says “Americans want our seafood cheap and easy”.
Thailand, a major provider of shrimp and other seafood to the U.S., is now aTier-3 country in a recently released Trafficking In Persons Report. The announcement made by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry at the State Department.
