“This year’s theme, Adapting to Change, will feature hands-on demonstrations and an open trade show that will help all participants connect with the changing world of seafood,” said Louisiana Sea Grant’s Thomas Hymel. “The state is known for its food – especially seafood! As the largest producer of wild caught seafood in the Gulf of Mexico and the lower 48 states, it’s only natural to bring together the fisherman harvesting the best shrimp, crabs, oysters and finfish in the world to learn the latest techniques in making that seafood even better.”

Fishermen will have the opportunity to learn better their business though and “Adapting to Change Diversion Panel”, as well as “Improving Your Bottom Line: e-Commerce” and “Micro-Processing” workshops. The gathering will also let fishermen learn more on how to make their voice heard: give testimony and more actively participate in the management process.

Fishermen, dock owners, processors and other related businesses will have the opportunity to network and obtain information on what’s happening in the commercial fishing and seafood industries.

This expo style summit is designed to allow attendees to interact directly with vendors, presenters, and demonstrators that include U.S. Coast Guard boat safety, food processing equipment and welding & hydraulics.

This free summit will include lunch with an advance registration and door prizes worth more than $3500 in commercial fishing supplies, including $2500 from Alario Brothers of Westwego.

The Summit is part of the Louisiana Fisheries Forward education initiative established to improve the economic success of Louisiana’s commercial fishing industry. It is sponsored by Louisiana Sea Grant, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and LSU AgCenter.
