To be close to his son, the elder Jones had taken personal time from duties at the Florida based organization that works closely with the commercial fishing industry in the southeastern United States, including the Gulf of Mexico

Michael was born in St. Augustine to Bob and his wife Malinda.  He graduated from Leon High School, before serving 20 years in the US Navy, achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer, First Class.

The younger Jones moved to Whigham, GA after retiring from the Navy in 1994.  He pursued a career in IT services, before expanding into dedicated work in disaster preparedness.

According to his father, “He answered every computer question his large and extended family could throw at him – he had patience beyond measure.   We all knew Mike was living one of his dreams when he had the good fortune to play in a rock band for a few years.”

A memorial Celebration of Life for Michael will be held Saturday February 15 at the Crossroads Church in Thomasville, GA.
