Ryan is the son Harlon and his wife Sharon, and the second to be lost by Harlon. One of five children, he is predeceased by his sister Melinda. His surviving brothers and sisters, Olivia, Deborah and Randy, say that he displayed great love and care to his family and was kind and generous to a fault.

Ryan selflessly encouraged and supported other young artists to build a circle of friendship. According to friends, Ryan had forged particularly close bonds with fellow artists in both the New Orleans and Austin music community. His friends describe him as a “kindred spirit” and “a beautiful soul” with “a witty and creative mind like no other”. He not only pushed the boundaries of his own musical talent but also the potential of those surrounding him, bringing light into the lives of all those he touched.

“Family has always been important to Harlon, both his real family and his seafood family. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” said Ewell Smith, a close  friend and former Executive Director of the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board.

While growing up in Crescent City area, Ryan worked at his fathers business, Harlon’s LA Fish in New Orleans, as well as did volunteer work for the Gulf Seafood Institute.

A service celebrating Ryan’s life will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie. His family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the service time.  In lieu of flowers, please honor Ryan’s memory with donations to Upbeat Academy Foundation, 621 Celeste Street, Suite 100, New Orleans, Louisiana 70130, www.upbeatacademy.org.
