In support of the Texas and Gulf fishing businesses, as well as the restaurants, markets, consumers and tourism industries depending on access to Gulf Seafood, The Texas Restaurant Association is hosting a Texas style happy hour.

Contigo, an East Austin restaurant modeled after the Contigo Ranch in South Texas, will play host to the Share the Gulf – Texas Coalition happy hour on Monday, January 27th from 5 pm to 7 pm.

27Share the Gulf is a coalition of chefs, restaurateurs, restaurant associations, seafood businesses, fishermen, conservationists, local food advocates and regular consumers that want to keep the local Gulf seafood industry fair and strong.

The organizations goal is to ensure Gulf seafood continues to be shared fairly and sustainably so that it can be enjoyed for generations to come.

Ben Edgerton and Andrew Wiseheart, who is also the executive chef, own the restaurant that brings the ranch to central Austin.

Edgerton grew up working and hunting at Contigo Ranch in S. Texas. After working in advertising New York City for five years, he partnered with Chef Andrew to open Contigo Austin.

The Texas Restaurant Association, which recently joined Share the Gulf, assists restaurant members to increase sales, reduce expenses and improve profitability.  It brings all segments of the diverse restaurant and hospitality industry together.

The organization advocates before national, state and local elected and regulatory officials, to protect and advance the interests of the industry.

Speakers for the gathering will include: Jim Gossen, chairman of Sysco Louisiana Seafoods, Buddy Guindon, commercial fisherman and owner of Galveston’s Katie’s Seafood Market, and Pam Baker of the Environmental Defense Fund.

R.S.V.P’s are required at ShareTheGulfTexas@gmail.com.
